Why colour shift is the #1 problem in permanent makeup
Every PMU pigment fades. The question is what colour it fades to. Cheap iron-oxide-heavy pigments oxidise under the skin — brows healing warm and orange, lips healing pink-purple, SMP healing blue-grey. Your client comes back at the six-week touch-up and blames you for a colour they never asked for.
FNS pigments use a hybrid organic-inorganic base with corrected undertones for each service. Brow pigments carry an olive-to-neutral bias to counter the natural warming that happens in the dermis; lip pigments are stabilised against the pink shift that ruins most budget lip lines; SMP pigments are carbon-based, not iron-based, so they heal charcoal — never blue.
Matching PMU pigments to skin tone
The single fastest way to improve retention and healed colour is to stop pulling one pigment for every client. Fitzpatrick I–II skin needs cooler, blonder-based brow tones; III–IV works with the medium-brown standard; V–VI needs the darkest, most warm-corrected pigment or the brows disappear in the first week.
For lips, the same logic applies but reversed — deeper skin tones almost always need a neutraliser step first (an olive or corrector pigment) before the final blush colour goes in. FNS ships a full neutraliser set alongside the main range so you can build the healed colour in two passes instead of chasing it across four appointments.
